Citizen Participation in Governance
Democracy is about people, not politicians. We promote active citizen participation through civic technology (civitech) and public education on the power of the people in democratic processes.
At the Edward Koye-Ladele Memorial Foundation for Good Leadership and Governance, we believe that the heart of any true democracy is active citizen participation. Citizens are not just observers; they are the rightful bearers of power in a democratic society. Our mission is to empower Nigerians to take an active role in shaping the governance of the nation, ensuring that democracy serves the people and promotes their welfare.
Why Citizen Participation Matters
As Abraham Lincoln famously defined, democracy is "government of the people, by the people, and for the people." For this principle to work, citizens must be informed, engaged, and willing to hold their leaders accountable. Governance should not be left solely to politicians. Rather, it should be driven by the people who elect them, ensuring that decisions reflect the interests and aspirations of the entire populace.
